Oh, for the love of Pete, YES!

I complained earlier this week about the Alexander Wang Suede Coco Duffel in tan, which I still think is an abomination against God, but now a new Coco Duffel has arrived at ShopBop in order to wipe that unpleasantness from my mind completely.

The Alexander Wang Grey Coco Duffel is a beautiful and fitting addition to the collection’s bag line, and my favorite part is that it has silver studs instead of gold. Or maybe my favorite part is that the medium shade of grey allows the Coco’s pebbly, textured leather to shine much better than the black did, which brings out even more of the hip little bag’s natural beauty?

I’m not sure what I like about it better, but I do know that making versions like this will make up for unfortunate iterations past. Buy through ShopBop for $850.

If Alexander Wang is going to insist on continuing to make non-black and non-leather iterations of the super popular Alexander Wang Coco Duffel, then he’s going to have to do better than tan.

The only things that I can think of when I see this bag are the faux nubuck jackets that you see in the men’s department at Wal-Mart every year and that are, presumably, purchased only by middle aged men that count huntin’ and workin’ on their truck among their main hobbies (note: I’m from the South, so I’m allowed/qualified to make jokes about redneck Wal-Mart shoppers).

The material just doesn’t look high-end to me, which might be a personal bias, but I suspect that I’m not alone. Wang doesn’t necessarily intend to make things that are conventionally pretty, and assuming that he does would be missing the point of his aesthetic, yet I don’t think his It Boy status is enough to make this bag work. I know that a lot of people that embrace his line might appreciate peculiar items on an ironic level, but if it takes irony to sell a bag, we’ve got to question the design itself.

Which is too bad, since I so totally love the bag’s original black iteration, and I can think of several other color and hardware options with which I’d be similarly smitten (dark purple leather with silver studs, anyone?). But I guess if a brand is going to devote itself slavishly to an aesthetic, it’s likely that not everything that comes out of that devotion will be good. As it is, I still love Alexander Wang. I’m not sure that “twee” is exactly the appropriate term for the Jerome Dreyfuss Twee Mini Python Bag, though. Maybe it’s the silver and black combo, but while it’s a really cute bag, it doesn’t have that quality of preciousness that the word implies. Semantics aside, however, it’s still a really nice-looking mini bag.

I love it when one of our normally more reasonably priced brands makes a foray into exotic materials and I think that they folks at Jerome Dreyfuss did an admirable job here. The silver is dark enough that the super shiny metallic finish doesn’t make it look cheap, and the black leather trim tempers the look just enough to keep it super fashionable. I hope they do more with python in the future, I’d love to see it. Buy through ShopBop for $1070.

This is just one of those bags that exudes a chipper vibe, unlike many Coach bags that fall into one of two camps: the muted, wonderful leather that is Classic Coach and the unbelievably bright mishmash of colors that is Coach Poppy. This bag fits right in the middle.

Plus, it has remarkably modern details that highlight the suppleness of the leather. Take, for example, the unique diagonal design of the bag itself, or better yet, the long twisted handle that reminds me of a vine (in the best way possible). The clincher is the tiny pocket in the front that highlights that signature brass turnlock closure. Buy through Nordstrom for $898.

I know we’ve covered the Diane Von Furstenberg Stephanie Hobo ad nauseum, but it’s one of few bags that EVERYONE on the PurseBlog team can agree on loving, so we get a little excited when a new version of the bag surfaces.

This is the first we’ve seen of the metallic black, and I love it. It’s got just enough silver woven in to highlight the amazing woven texture that looks like leather chain mail, and we all know that black and silver is a key combination to go with a lot of fall’s clothing trends. Plus, for such an It Bag, the price is within reach. If you haven’t found the version of the Stephanie for you yet, then maybe this is the one. Buy through ShopBop for $875.

This is the kind of bag that is absolutely perfect for your day to day activities. No, there is nothing far out there about it, but is fabulous. The slashes throughout the leather tote add just a bit of uniqueness and individuality to it. However, it is this individuality is something for other designers to seek out. Wang did a great job making this bag completely desirable without making it look sloppy. It’s a bit pricey, but buy through Shopbop for $895.

With a new material and a new color however, Gryson’s lovely painted finish makes a much different impression on the Gryson Painted Eel Olivia Bag.

Gryson couldn’t have chosen a better color to showcase the subtle variations of her painted finishes than this deep wine red. The depth of color keeps it from looking sloppy, but it’s just light enough to show the dimension and subtlety of the paint. If she had gone with a bright instead, it would probably have looked shoddily done and unfinished, but burgundy keeps things classy. Featuring eel, one of fashion’s most affordable exotics, was also a great touch. Buy through ShopBop for $995.

The Alexander Wang Daphne Duffel Bag is a unique take on a large tote. The tote is functional but the color and texture of the bag confuses me a bit. Is it denim? Is it textured? I don’t know. It is definitely a denim inspired handbag. The washed leather features banding and metal stud detailing along the front, back and bottom. The double handles are a must for a bag this large but I can’t see myself carrying any way other than just in hand. Imagine how heavy the bag would feel on your shoulder. I don’t think this bag is for day to day use but it would be nice travel option. Buy through Shopbop for $890.

And one of the most important things when looking at bags online is the number and quality of photos available. Since ShopBop redesigned their website a few months ago, their photos have gotten larger, more detailed and more numerous, and that only benefits all of us out here trying to decide on which bag to buy, sight unseen. And the new bags certainly do a lot of favors for the Jerome Dreyfuss Billy Bag.

When we visited the Billy Bag the first time, it looked great as a tote but it was hard to see how it would translate to shoulder-carrying, other than as a foldover of sorts. And that’s all fine and good – most convertible bags really only look good carried one way, in the end.

But based on the pictures we have of the new leather version, it looks as though it folds in on itself to create a really nice hobo shape that I wouldn’t have expected at all from the previous pictures. The shoulder strap is just long enough to make it look like it was intended to be carried that way, and because the top handles aren’t super structured, they lay flat better than those of most convertible bags. On top of all of that, the leather that they use looks thick and gorgeous and grey is a key color for fall. I can give this bag no less than a ringing endorsement. Buy through ShopBop for $908.

My latest love from his fall line is the Alexander Wang Jess Small Shopper. It combines a few Wang signatures – simple, functional shapes, thick, matte leather, and industrial design cues. The rows of neatly arranged shredded leather remind me a bit of the belts used in machinery – sort of like giant, black, chunky rubber bands. The design is kept sleek by the vertical banding that holds the shredded leather in place every few inches, and the bag as a whole doesn’t seem like it would be too delicate for everyday use, despite how cut-up it is. Leaving off external hardware allows the bag’s deconstructed aesthetic to shine through, and I can’t help but salivate over it. Buy through ShopBop for $895.
