Every now and then, we like to feel like we provide a public service here at PurseBlog. You need handbag knowledge, we have the resources to provide it.

And there’s an unending amount of handbag knowledge to be gained about the bags that the characters on Gossip Girl carry, so we thought we might drop a little on you today. It’s our job, after all.

In this week’s episode, we spotted Hilary Duff’s Olivia character carrying a bag by one of our favorites: the Rebecca Minkoff Fringe Darling Hobo. This bag is the slightly more complicated version of the lovely Rebecca Minkoff Darling Hobo, another bag that we absolutely love.

Any bag that’s carried on this show looks totally glam by association, and they do a great job of picking their wardrobe overall. But this bag is the real deal, we think. Buy through Luna Boston for $495.

From what I’ve seen, Judith Leiber clutches will usually do between two and six thousand dollars worth of damage. That’s a lot of scratch for a little sparkly clutch, but they’re extremely precise and often quite unique, so a lot of women love them. But what if you don’t have the type of money to spend on an evening bag you probably won’t use often, but you still want a little bit of glitter in your life? Not only has the L.A.M.B. Etoile Hobo been carried on Gossip Girl recently, but it’s also been seen on the arm of L.A.M.B. founder Gwen Stefani for months on end now. As such, we’re pleased to inform you that several color combinations have finally hit stores as part of the brand’s Holiday 2010 collection.

This bag has probably been more highly anticipated than any other in the young brand’s handbag history, and with good reason – it neatly refines L.A.M.B.’s sometimes erratic point of view into something that is totally wearable while still being edgy and different from the average black hobo.

Well, there is something I like about this bag yet I can’t quite put my finger on it. I do like the tan leather color and the gold hardware. So, that’s a start. The West/Feren McCoy Bag is a versatile bag that can be carried by someone young or someone a bit older. Yes, I think that is what has pulled me in with this bag, the versatility.

I love a good winter white. I’m from the South and there are still fairly strict taboos here against wear white after Labor Day, but those rules seem so completely old fashioned in the face of beautiful, creamy winter whites, such as the stylish-yet-functional CC Skye Kate Hobo.

I have a personal bias towards bags with this shape and structure, but this looks like just the sort of thing to add some much-needed neutral contrast to a dark winter wardrobe.

Sigh. I really, really, really wish this image was a bit better. The Treesje Hendrix Shoulder Bag is actually a fabulous bag but the image doesn’t do it enough justice. But, let’s try and forget the image itself and let’s just focus on the bag. First and foremost, I love the color of the bag. The polished wine colored leather looks fabulous on this shoulder bag. However, I do have a question as to why Treesje decided to call this a shoulder bag.

It’s not like I’ve never seen the Linea Pelle Dylan line before. I have. The collection has been popular and widely appreciated for some time now, but it never really made me go “OMG AMANDA WANT” like some other bags.

Slowly, though, the love for these bags has been creeping up on me. I’ve found myself to be quite a fan of the hobo, and now I think I’m also in love with the Linea Pelle Dylan Large Speedy.

From time to time, I see a Rebecca Minkoff bag that I’m not totally fond of, but it’s a rare thing. And indeed, today is not one of those times.

The Rebecca Minkoff Love Letters Shoulder Bag is functional, on trend, and completely appealing. It must be a fairly daunting task for a fairly young designer to be expected to come up with new shapes and ideas for every season with a fairly rabid following salivating over what may come next, but Ms. Minkoff has pulled it off once again.

Be still my beating heart. Ladies and gentleman, I’ve found a winner. A great, fashionable bag at a reasonable price! I wrote about the VBH Python Clutch with Crystal Detail yesterday on Purse Blog. One of the areas I focused on was the exquisite exotic skin; and it is true I do. But sometimes I find myself in an exotic-esque bag at without the exotic price. Thankfully, I came across the Cynthia Vincent Croco Berkeley Tote today and I am a very, very happy girl.
