I cannot for the life of me think of how this bag would come in handy. So here is the deal. I have come across this bag for the past couple weeks and every time I have I cringed just a little bit. I guess I finally had to write about it. The Marc by Marc Jacobs Dot Hobo is a complete miss in my book. Apparently this hobo is supposed to fit comfortably on your shoulder, but I can’t imagine this resting ever so gracefully on your side. In fact, I feel like the shape of the bag is a bit awkward. On my shoulder I think I would be spending most of the time trying to carry it a little behind my arm as the bag keeps rubbing up against it. I don’t know about you, but one of my biggest pet peeves about bags is when you look like you are fighting with it in order for it to just be still! The color is ok, but on this bag it looks like it is too much. Again, with a large hobo, there will obviously be plenty of room for you to store anything and everything you might need. This hobo is no exception to the rule; it is huge. Maybe it would be ok for a day at the beach, but otherwise, I don’t think you would ever see me carrying it around. However, if you disagree, you can buy through Bluefly for $173.

BCBGMAXAZRIA Poem Print Canvas Tote

Sigh. I have a few conflicting thoughts on the BCBGMAXAZRIA Poem Print Canvas Tote, so bear with me here.

First, I think it’s great that, at $88, its appropriately priced for a canvas bag. Canvas bags should not cost as much as leather bags. Period. This is the first tenet of savvy handbag-buying.

Second, I want to know if the words on it are actually from poetry, or if they’re just random fun-sounding words. As a writer, I think it would be kinda awesome if it was a real poem. But it’s probably not, I’m guessing, since handbag designers aren’t writers and probably don’t think about these things. I’ve zoomed in as much as Saks would let me (and briefly considered opening the image in Photoshop to zoom in further, but that would make my office-mates REALLY wonder about me), and as far as I can tell, no real poetry. A few lines that sounded like they’d be better for cheesy R&B song lyrics, and then a bunch of the brand name. My dreams are basically thwarted on this front.

Third…did anyone else look at this and think “Tory Burch tote bag?” Because I certainly did. The setup, materials, and center applique are all VERY similar to totes we’ve seen from Ms. Burch’s line, and I find it a bit disconcerting. Amanda no likie design stealers.

So, my opinion of BCBG’s effort here is decidedly blah. Not their finest work. But at least the price is right, I guess? Buy through Saks for $88.

Vegas, what a city! I celebrated a friend’s birthday out there this past weekend and was instantly reminded how much I love that city. The lights, the hotels, the restaurants, the shopping, the people watching - it really is like a playground for adults. I have to say, with all the glitz and glamor from start to finish, I couldn’t help but notice some wonderful outfits and handbags during my stay. There really were some amazing handbags being sported around the city. With all the energy and excitement, I found myself yearning for a new hip and fun bag, kind of like the Christian Louboutin Studio 54 Bag.

Usually, I don’t care for lime green handbag, but this one might actually work. The color is soft and in conjunction with the size of the bag, it isn’t overwhelming. Zip detailing at the flap with magnetic closures adds dimension to the bag. One of the best things about this bag would have to be the removable shoulder strap. For me, this bag works much better as a clutch, but the shoulder strap could definitely come in handy. In typical Christian Louboutin fashion, there is something else eye catching about the bag, red leather lining. I’ve written about Christian Louboutin bags before and each one definitely had its own flare. This bag, can definitely hold its own during a night out in Vegas or any city for that matter. Marc by Marc Jacobs Double Flap Clutch

It is not that Marc Jacobs can do no harm, but it is that Marc Jacobs is a master at branding himself. I have said many times before that the Marc by Marc line is many times just as good as the more expensive big sister. Maybe the quality is a step or two down, maybe the look is a tad younger, but somehow, he pulls off this line amazingly. And my new Marc by Marc love is a black patent leather clutch, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Double Flap Clutch. The clutch is designed with black patent leather and has a double flap top with logo turnlock fastenings. The gem of the clutch can be found on the inside, with blue spot and star lining, which is the perfect treat. Also inside there is a zipped pouch. This gets an A+ for the outside and inside from me. Buy through Net A Porter for $230.

I’ll admit it, I have a weak spot for metallic finished handbags. Not all of them, but a lot of them. There is just something that grabs my eye about something sparkly or something that shimmers. Without a doubt, the bronze metallic finish was the first thing I noticed about the Cole Haan Village Soft North/South Rouched Satchel. Sometimes I think it is great to take a break from handbags with lots of bells and whistles. Other than the bronze metallic finish, there isn’t anything out of the ordinary about this bag, but I think that could be one of the reasons I like it so much. Cole Haan did a great job sticking to what the line is great at, making functional and fun handbags. I am also a fan of the buckles located where the bag and handles meet. It is a great addition. And who would have thought, a brand that began by selling men’s footware 80 years ago would one day make such gorgeous handbags? Buy through Zappos for $449.

Years ago when I began watching Sex and the City on a regular basis I couldn’t help but notice the eclectic variety of handbags the ladies would tote around from episode to episode. Yes, I know, Sex and the City is old news, but to this day, there are certain bags I stumble across that I could see being used on the show. The Furla Nausicca Xsmall Top Handle Bag is one of them. No, it’s not one of those bags that is way out there nor is it an overly conservative bag Miranda might have carried from time to time. In fact, I can think of situations in which and of the four ladies might have carried this bag. The croc embossed leather is accentuated simply due to the color chosen, a bright and bold red. Furla is known to pay close attention to the leather chosen for its handbags and even from the image above, you can see that the leather looks amazing. The silvertoned pushlock closure is a perfect size for this small bag. No, this is not the kind of handbag you would be able to fit a lot into, but it is a great option when you are debating between a clutch and a small bag. The other great thing about this bag, the price. Buy through Bluefly for $210.

Ok, so you’ve already seen plenty of entries about handbags that sport some sort of fringe. And for better or worse it doesn’t look like fringe is going anywhere anytime soon. I struggle when I try to decide if fringe on a bag is a hit or a miss. As I’ve said before, when it comes to fringe less is best. But I know there are plenty of handbags, boots and items of clothing that boast tons of fringe. What about this Vanessa Bruno Fringe Hobo, does the fringe do the hobo good, or bad? This pebbled leather handbag placed it’s fringe on the front patch pockets and tab. At closer look, I wouldn’t mind the fringe on the bag if the fringe on the tab was removed. I do like the double handles; that almost came as a pleasant surprise. Sometimes little surprises like this make the bag worth a second look. The lined interior has zipper pockets and two patch pockets. As with most hobos, there is plenty of room to store your essentials. But, I am not sure I can get past what I consider to be too much fringe. So, tell me, what amount of fringe is just right? If you feel this bag is it, buy through Shop Bop for $830.

I’ve definitely been in the holiday season clutch mood lately. Well, not just clutches, but all things that involve getting ready for the upcoming parties, events, and gatherings. The holidays are such a great excuse to flaunt your favorite outfits and handbags. I’ve been a CC Skye fan since the first bag I saw. The more I kept my eye out, the more I began to love not only her handbags, but also her accessories. I’m sure many of you have noticed countless celebs toting around her items. Here, Ashley Tisdale carried the CC Skye Silver Broken Mirror Clutch to the High School 3 Musical Premiere. I think her overall look is gorgeous. Her dress, makeup, and of course, clutch all work so well together.

As soon as I saw the clutch, I couldn’t help but think how well it would go with so many holiday outfits. And, actually, forget about the holidays for a second and switch gears to a night out on the town. This clutch would be a great accessory. In fact, you could keep the rest of your accessories fairly simple since the clutch is bound to attract so much attention. With all the broken pieces, the clutch will gather all sorts of light and help your entire look radiate. And for an unexpected flash, the clutch is lined with pink satin. CC Skye’s line is all about being hip and chic. I love it. Grab this clutch in silver or gold through Chick Downtown for $495.

Hobos can be a staple in someone’s life. For everyday use, I find myself either carrying around a tote or a hobo. I don’t know about you, but I am the kind of person that has a few essential items that must be in my handbag during the day. So, I need room to store my things without the bag becoming too burdensome. The Alexis Hudson St. Germaine Hobo reminds me of what I think of when the term hobo comes to mind. If you read Purse Blog, you will know we have covered plenty of different hobos in the past. But, I have to say, this is one bag I find to be classic, timeless and functional. The Alexis Hudson line is one that prides itself on handbags which will stand the test of time. I think they hit the nail on the head with this bag. The black leather is pleated along the front and back of the bag which adds a hint of definition and texture to the otherwise fairly simple bag. Then, the few pieces of goldtone hardware definitely make the bag look chic. For the most part, I am almost always a fan of black leather which is accentuated with goldtone hardware. Buy through Bluefly for $303.45.
