It is always great coming home. Living out in California is fabulous, but it is so refreshing to be back in Florida with the rest of the family for a couple weeks. This morning Megs came over to the house and she carried a gorgeous studded bag. Recently I’ve become a little bored with studs, but seeing a fabulously executed studded bag made me want to find others out there.

So as I embarked on my studded mission, I was really happy to come across the Treesje London Clutch. The soft brown leather and goldtone hardware studding contrast so well against one another. Of course, in the midst of the Fall season, I love this clutch even more. The dark hue of the leather is rich and clutch-worthy. With only a 5″ drop, there is close to no chance you’d see me trying to carry this bag on my shoulder. However, it would look great in my hand or placed in the crease of my elbow. At first I had problems with it, specifically with the awkward placing of the studs on the strange, wrinkly front. But I have willingly put those qualms aside after gathering my thoughts. I am going to completely blame the stock photos for making the bag look extremely iffy.

That’s right. I am convinced that once seen in its natural environment on the shoulder or in the crook of the elbow and filled with items, it will exude coolness that comes from being used and loved. Not to mention that the medium grey color not unlike that awesome color of giant boulders on the Maine coast, is spot-on. And furthermore, I believe those studs will also cease to look awkward once the bag is in use. Now, if only I could argue so well in my classes. I’ll have to work on that. The popularity of Gossip Girl fashion-watching can make or break a bag that appears on the show, and it’s been a while since a bag has stood out as much as the teal Treesje Jovi Bag that Serena sported last night with her navy blue outfit. We saw paparazzi pics of it a few weeks ago and I couldn’t wait to see it in action on the show, and now I just want one even more.

My favorite thing about this particular bag is the color variation in the dark blue leather. It’s more of a medium navy in some parts and in others is almost a blue/black, and the effect gives the bag a lot of character without making it overly complicated.

Yet what intrigues me the most is the hardware; I love it. Polished gold hardware can be found on the bag. I only wish I could figure out a better way to describe the embellishments along the front of the bag. I just don’t know what to call them. Do you? And this year, there is little to no competition. The Treesje Mortale Travel Tote is easily my favorite and definitely what I would be carrying, were I to be hauling my rear end up and down the nearly two-mile-long, hill-laden campus that resides mere minutes away.

And perhaps the only thing that could convince me to go to grad school would be to find a legitimate reason to buy this gorgeous bit of gothic glamour. I wrote about another bag from this line some time ago, and I still cannot get over how unbelievably cool and subversive I think it is.

The tonal, metallic skull pattern has probably been done, honestly. Alexander McQueen started all of that nonsense over a year ago, and a lot of it has come and gone, but this tote still looks fresh to me. Its simplicity is probably vitally important to that fact – rows of angry skulls in a neutral, unobtrusive color scheme are far more modern and less obvious than the white-on-black skull patterns that remind us all of the pirate flags of yore. The top compartment I like, it’s just the bottom that I had a problem with. Why would you even open a zippered compartment in the shape of an upside-down half-moon, I asked myself before I realized that it didn’t matter. The fact is, the whole aesthetic of the bag is pleasing enough that the use of that particular zippered compartment made no difference whatsoever. Because really, if that zipper was gone the whole bag would seem off. So it’s there to stay. And another little unique feature of this bag? The double rings on the handles.
