Marc By Marc Jacobs Large Computer Sleeve

Now this is very, very interesting. And what is more interesting than the fact that Marc by Marc Jacobs made a very, let’s say, incase-looking computer sleeve is the fact that the Shopbop silhouette model is carrying it like a clutch. I have a lightweight computer, and I would not carry it that way. Too risky. And this is supposed to carry a computer that is 14.5 inches long!

Marc by Marc Jacobs Stamped Velvet Magazine Clutch

Texture is always key for fall. Chunky knits, silk dresses, wool jackets, soft cashmere. And this year, we have the added visual interest of tough studs and black leather being popular for fall. Why can’t the weather be cool and crisp year-round? The clothes are so much more interesting – for example, the combination of velvet and patent leather that makes up the Marc by Marc Jacobs Stamped Velvet Magazine Clutch has more depth and style than anything I’ve worn in months.

Marc By Marc Jacobs Doodle Print Tote

My view on all-over printed bags is not the most favorable. I make an exception for Goyard, of course (well… they are hand-painted, not printed, and that is a different matter entirely), and I now make an exception for this Marc by Marc Jacobs Doodle Print Tote. Why, you ask?

Well, everyone’s pretty acquainted with the magnificent art of the doodle. But these are no children’s drawings, no, not at all. These are sophisticated doodles, doodles that were created by someone who certainly paid little to no attention in class for quite some time. The classroom is where doodles are born, people. I know this. You know this. It may even be a scientifically proven fact. But to have a tote bag covered with doodles? Pure genius.

Fashion Week Spring 2010: Marc by Marc Jacobs

MBMJ 9When the models hit the runway for Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2010, I’m pretty sure that every hipster in Brooklyn fainted from pure glee. Someone go check on them and make sure that they’re ok.

The more accessible, lower-cost line from Jacobs has always had a certain irreverent, downtown appeal, and this particular set of clothing crystallizes that notion quite well indeed. It’s a mash-up of 80s colors and shapes with tribal prints and flavor, and the result is kicky, fun, and bound to start a wave of (somewhat toned-down) trends that you’ll be able to find in a mall near you.

Looking at the photos, I can’t help but get the feeling that the collection can be described only as joyous. It’s a celebration of the enthusiasm of youth, of the tendency of the young to mix odd things together haphazardly, and the kind of combinations you can get away with if you can call them experimentation.

Which is not to say that the collection was unrefined in the least – the appearance of plaids and prints in the same outfit, as well as contrasting instead of coordinating colors, is not a happy accident. The materials, patterns, and hues were expertly chosen by the MBMJ design team to play up their happy dissonance, and the counterpoint that the plaids, stripes, and tribal prints create for each other are hugely successful.

I am completely adoring the Marc by Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal line. We’ve already covered the Pouchette as well as the Shoulder Bag. Today I have the hobo version to share with you and I am fairly confident you won’t be disappointed; I know that I am not.

I. Love. This. Bag. As soon as I came across this bag I found myself wanting it… no scratch that… needing it! I will be the first to tell you that I am constantly checking out Marc by Marc Jacobs bags. MJ puts out some great bags but some are just a little too pricey for what you get. However, the Marc by Marc Jacobs bags are gorgeous and affordable; talk about a little piece of heaven. And speaking of heaven, let’s talk about this bag right here.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Softy Zip Wallet

Is there anything in particular that makes you want to buy a new handbag? If you are like most of us here on the Purse Blog team, you might not need a specific reason other than just because you want to. Frankly, that can be reason enough. However, there are certain times when I hear about a recent purchase or gift and it sparks my interest. Case in point: Megs’ birthday was this past weekend and Vlad bought her a fabulous new Louis Vuitton wallet. This got me thinking, “hey, I need a new wallet too”!

So many people were in love with the Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal Sasha Shoulder Bag when we wrote about it last month that i couldn’t wait for other bags from the line to start showing up online. With such an obvious hit on their hands, they had to have more waiting in the wings, right?

Right indeed! The Marc by Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal Flap Pouchette is the smaller, less expensive version that still has all the attitude of the original.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Totally Turnlock Bow Clutch Yawn. C’mon Marc Jacobs, I know you have more to give than what I am seeing here. Sure, there isn’t anything horrible about the Marc by Marc Jacobs Totally Turnlock Clutch but there also isn’t anything that makes me want to go out and buy it right away. While I find it really important to have a few go-to bags in your closet, I am in the mood for a show stopper, not something that is just “blah”.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Robbie G Messenger Bag

You know what we don’t spend a whole lot of time discussing? Man bags. Which is weird, because more and more handbag companies are making them and more and more stylish men are carrying them. Which is a natural progression – as men’s fashion becomes more and more accessible and normalized among the male population, the more demand increases and designers scramble to enter the market.
