Writing about Marc by Marc Jacobs bag is almost always very pleasant. They’re reasonably priced, made of really nice leather for their price tags, and most of the bag shapes come in enough colors that most people will be able to find one that they like.

For example, I’m not an overwhelming fan of the Marc by Marc Jacobs Pretty Nappa Lil Lissy Shoulder Bag, but I have a feeling that this sad tan of a neutral isn’t the only shade that it’s going to come in, and that sort of frees me up to think about the bag as a shape only. Which is great, because that color? Blech.

It just looks so soft. And when a bag is soft, functional, and assumingly comes in a color that is not the one that we see here, what else is there to worry about? The knotted handles slightly increase the casual, weekend feel of this little shoulder bag, but the overall design is simple enough that it could easily also be worn in a business-casual atmosphere, particularly in a somewhat staid color option like black. Buy through Saks for $378.

Could it be true? Has Marc Jacobs heeded by advice? A few weeks ago, I wrote about the excessively plain and utterly un-Marc Marc by Marc Jacobs Computer Sleeve. And now, my friends and (perhaps) fellow laptop owners, we have a new case from Marc, this vibrant Marc by Marc Jacobs Pretty Nylon Laptop Case.

All right, so it’s not the cat’s pajamas of laptop cases, but the color and quintessential nylon Marc style make it quite worth it. Plus it’s padded on the inside- so it looks like Marc, but with all the protection your delicate laptop requires. Sorry, that kind of sounded like an ad… ah well. You see, while bright blue isn’t my all-time favorite color, I still harbor a slight obsession with the shade. So while this case doesn’t have super-fun doodles dancing on the sides, the blue does make up for it.

And though I don’t own one of those oh-so-useful nylon totes, image how fun it would be to have a laptop case match your bag. Call me geeky, but I find that matching accessories are a source of glee. Maybe soon this laptop case will come with a matching tote in a contrasting color or print… Marc? Are you listening? Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $68.

When I was little, my mom had a mint green leather vanity case that she would always use every time we went on vacation, and I remember being totally jealous of it. Not that it was particularly spectacular (I was born in the mid 80s and I think that particular set of luggage was a holdover from the late 70s, based on the color) or that I had anything to put in it at that age – it just seemed like the sort of thing that big girls had for all of their big girl beauty needs.

Fast forward a couple of decades, and I have plenty of beauty products that need a home when I travel and absolutely zero adorable pieces of luggage in which to put them. So maybe the Marc by Marc Jacobs Pretty Nylon Vanity Case is my childhood dream come true?

I can’t say that I cosign on the color choice – it’s a little too taupe for my taste, and I tend to like brightly colored travel gear. We’ll give the folks at Marc by Marc Jacobs the benefit of the doubt, though, since this probably comes in at least a few other color options. The interior is filled with vinyl pockets and lots of space for makeup, brushes, hair products and the various and sundry other things that I currently end up throwing into a Target bag while traveling. Odds are, this little vanity case will keep me a lot more organized than that does. Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $158.

Here’s the thing. A while ago, when the Marc By Marc Jacobs Miss Marc tee shirts came out, I was totally against them. You could even say I was creeped out. A Nighmare-Before-Christmas-esque girl smack dab in the middle of my shirt? No thanks. But my sentiments towards Miss Marc promptly changed when I spotted this Marc By Marc Jacobs Miss Marc Coin Purse.

You see, I carry a lot of pens and pencils and colored pencils (really, who knows when I might need them) with me, that student’s curse. I’m therefore always on the lookout for fun pen pouch to throw in my bag so that I don’t get pen marks on my bag’s lining. And this little purse certainly fits the bill. It’s certainly the right size for my writing utensils, and the fun design ensures that it’ll be found even in a black-lined bag.

I know some people won’t agree with me- Miss Marc is certainly an acquired taste. She’s quirky and colorful, and absolutely the quintessential Marc by Marc girl, albeit in cartoon form. You could say I’ve warmed up to her. Who knows, I may start sporting a skinny yellow headband and heart-shaped glasses to cultivate my newfound adoration. Buy through Shopbop for $58.

No kidding: I’m approximately a half second away from ordering the Marc by Marc Jacobs Natasha Classic Q Shoulder Bag on Net-a-Porter. I’m barely restraining myself. The color? Beautiful. The leather? Soft. The size? Functional. The price? Reasonable.

I wasn’t entirely sold on this bag until I saw it in person, but it’s actually really great. The leather is what we’ve come to expect from Marc by Marc Jacobs, even at sub-$350 price tags: thick, soft and pliable. And there’s plenty of it, as it takes the center stage on this simple yet chic bag.

The color is also fantastic for winter – if you’ve never paired purple with charcoal grey, you’ve never really created a cold-weather outfit. It would also go with basically anything in my wardrobe, and the only color that I ever pause to pair it with is red. A purple bag can absolutely be used every day, and this one is in such a functional shape and size that I don’t see why you wouldn’t.

As I mentioned previously, though, my favorite part is the price. I defy you to find a bag with leather as nice as this one for less. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $330.

It’s always fun to revisit a previously covered bag that is just a bit different. There are just some bags out there that are worth a revisit. The Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Drawstringy Leather Bag is a gorgeous bag. My love for this bag started when Amanda wrote about it a couple weeks ago. My love continued to grow when I actually saw the bag in person and my love just exploded when I saw that this bag is available in an unbelievable color called grape juice!

I already loved this bag and I just continue to love it and Marc Jacobs more and more because of this fabulous color. This shade is perfect for every season, seriously! It will spruce up any outfit and when was the last time you heard of a color called grape juice? Doesn’t that make you even more intrigued? The soft pebbled leather, round silhouette and goldtone hardware all come together perfectly. Just like Amanda, I am not a huge fan of drawstring bags, but this one has made me think differently; it is a total home run. I am about <--this--> close to buying it right now! Buy through Saks for $528.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen the Magazine Clutch, but since Marc Jacobs continues to change everything up a bit, I figured it was worthwhile to discuss this particular version as well. I discussed the shape of this clutch almost a year ago. I liked it then and I like it now. Recently, Amanda wrote about the Stamped Velvet version which looks a bit more like this one.

Yet, when I came across the Marc by Marc Jacobs Magazine Leather Clutch I found an entirely different aspect of it that I can appreciate over and over again. First of all, I love the color. At this point I am sure I sound like a broken record player telling you that this kind of orange color is crucial for the fall. So, moving along quickly, I actually like the stamped leather and gold hardware. Deep, rich, lusciousness all comes together for a great over-sized clutch! Buy through Net-a-Porter for $360.

At first glance, I didn’t realize that the Marc by Marc Jacobs Nylon Q Percy Crossbody Bag wasn’t leather. Now, I’m sure that would be clear in person even if it’s not immediately obvious in photos, but the advent of an attractive nylon bag always piques my interest and brings to mind many questions.

Chief among them: how much is a nylon bag worth? Would you use a nylon bag every day, or just when the weather was bad? When you think about buying a non-leather bag, are designer names important anymore?

One thing is clear – Marc by Marc Jacobs has done a great job of making sure that the material isn’t too shiny or chintzy on their new nylon line. The finish is matte and the colors are on the dark side of medium, so they look a tad more luxurious than a bag made out of a synthetic material would otherwise.

Because of the easy design (the soft gathering is my favorite part) of this little bag, I could see myself using it more often than I would most nylon purses – maybe not every day, but more frequently than just when weather allows it. I would love if it were closer to the $100 mark, though. Buy through ShopBop for $138.

I have a deep and abiding appreciation for a silly handbag moment. Life isn’t always serious, and there’s room in my wardrobe (and, I suspect, in most people’s) for something fun and maybe a bit over the top.

Luckily for us, when there are bags like the Marc by Marc Jacobs Into The Wild Standard Supply Mabel Tote on the market, a fun bag doesn’t have to break the bank.

Everyone can use a couple of durable, simple totes in their life, and one with a pattern as wild as this one almost functions as a type of neutral. I wouldn’t pair it with other crazy patterns, but the colors that make up a leopard print are normally colors that would be considered neutral if used by themselves, and it’s easier to pair it with clothing and colors than you’d expect.

The bright green Marc by Marc Jacobs logos provide a bit of contrast that I enjoy but others might not, and the overall effect of this bag is one that would be useful as a tote for school or the gym – fun, not particularly delicate, and with a pattern that would easily disguise wear and tear. If I was still in school, I’d be happy to put my books in it any day. Buy through Saks for $188.

It was just yesterday that I was saying I had never liked a drawstring bag before, wasn’t it? It seems like as soon as I make a generality like that about any bag attribute, bags that I love that also share that characteristic start falling from the sky. First, it was the Rebecca Minkoff Tess Drawstring Bag – black leather, ultra useful, gorgeous.

And now, the object of my drawstring affections is the Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Drawstringy Satchel. I can only anticipate their being a third drawstring bag to prove me wrong tomorrow. Things tend to come in threes, after all.

Isn’t it pretty? I think it is. The bag is simple and functional, but the placement of the drawstring gives it a satisfying slouch that is often hard to find in a tote or satchel. We already know that the leather on all of the Classic Q bags is fantastic, so I’m having a hard time finding something not to like here. Buy through ShopBop for $528.
