I’ve been eying this bag for quite some time now. Initially I passed it by because nothing really jumped out and said “I need this” just as nothing jumped out and said “ewwww”.
Yet, each time I come across it, I find myself stopping and looking for a while. L.A.M.B. designs are usually blatantly recognizable, but this one isn’t and I think that is part of the reason I like it so much.
The first thing that struck me about the LAMB Martindale Hobo is that it’s much more muted and understand that many of L.A.M.B’s bags, which are usually characterized by bright patterns or images and contrasting colors. But bag is almost entirely made of black matte leather, and I didn’t even realize who had made it when I first stumbled across it.
The second thing that struck me was that it kind of reminds me of the Orlando Magic’s baskbetball uniforms. The bag is mostly black with a shock of cobalt blue and some white piping – it’s got an almost athletic feel to it, doesn’t it? It would be a more convincing comparison if the black leather was perforated, but even though it isn’t, it still feels that way to me. I’m not sure if it’s the white piping that’s throwing me off, or maybe it’s the piping mixed with the bright blue trim. Either way, it’d be a great bag if your favorite sports team wears these colors. If not, it’s still probably an okay purchase. Buy through Nordstrom for $259.90
In all honesty, I usually find L.A.M.B. bags to be a bit much. There are usually lots of patterns, contrasting colors and overlays in one bag, and then maybe some extra trim for good measure. I can see why people like them, but for the pattern-averse out there, it can be a lot of look.
So I’m surprised to say that I think they hit the perfect note with the L.A.M.B. Andhra Tote. The background pattern is a subtle black-and-gray combination somewhere between ikat and zebra print that isn’t too loud or obnoxious, and the patent stripes of blue and yellow add a pop to the bag that gives contrast without clashing. It’s a pleasantly unusual bag without being unattractive, and that’s a line that L.A.M.B. seems to have been trying to walk for a very long time. Well, they’ve finally gotten it right. At this size, this might even make a good school tote for days when you girls don’t have that much to haul around. Buy through Nordstrom for $425.
I live right on the edge of East Bumble Nowhere, admittedly. The town I live in is really cool, and probably (in my completely biased opinion) the greatest college town in the country, but I live about 3 minutes from the edge of town, which means that livestock is just around the bend. And there’s a flock of sheep out there, which means LAMBS! And they’re adorable in ways you can’t even imagine, and so tiny when they’re born!
And there’s also a lamb on the front of the LAMB Redfin Messenger Bag, and although lambs are cute, and I get why this brand in particular would be using pictures of barnyard animals, I feel like they could have made other types of winking references to their name without being so obvious and literal. Beyond making a bag SHAPED like a lamb, I think this is just about as literal as you could get, and this really isn’t say “high end” to me. Buy through Luna Boston for $195.
I wrote on Purse Blog at the end of last year that I just wasn’t in to bicolor or multicolor bags. Not my thing. Too much going on, too hard to match to stuff, etc. I often make these sweeping generalizations and then have to go back on my words later, and that’s exactly what the L.A.M.B. Darjeeling Shimia Tote is forcing me to do. The odd thing is, I normally have the same reaction to L.A.M.B. bags in general – too much going on, too hard to match to stuff, etc. But this bag? This one is quite lovely, indeed. The contrast of the colors is done in a fresh, sleek way and despite the fact that they’re an unexpected combination, they totally work. The shapes are simple and create an easy, geometric area of visual interest, and it wouldn’t take much to create a bag with these elements that was FAR too busy, but somehow, L.A.M.B. keeps this one just simple enough to be chic. It’s a fine line to toe, and they’ve impressed me with their ability to stay on the right side of it with this bag. Buy through Shop Bop for $595.
Are you a fan of convertible clutches? Typically, I am not. Even when a shoulder strap is an option I usually just carry the clutch like, a clutch. And although I don’t usually use a shoulder strap with clutches, I think the shoulder strap on the L.A.M.B. Ryder Sparrow Convertible Clutch is a nice option. But moving past the shoulder strap option, I have to say I like the two-tone leather combination on this handbag. The ruching, pleating, silver hardware and zipper pocket on the outside all come together to create a fun and funky bag. Obviously, a L.A.M.B. handbag is one that has a bit of an edge to it and I think this is something we’ve all come to expect. Here, I am happy to see that the signature logo has been dropped and you are left with a usable bag. Buy through Shop Bop for $295.
I guess yet another saying is true. We are creatures of habit. I had become very used to L.A.M.B. handbags. Anytime I heard of them or saw them, I basically knew what to expect. However, today, when I came across the L.A.M.B. Signature Top Zip Satchel I had to rub my eyes. I thought to myself, “wait, a second, this can’t be! The colors are too soft, the design, understated”! Now, as I looked a little more closely, I could see the signature pattern, but the colors, THE COLORS, where did they go? So, as I moved on from a bit of shock, I tried to figure out if I liked the change or not. The metallic-hued print around a structured satchel with black trim for a slight element of contrast do seem to work well together. My question though, is it too boring, too plain? (I never thought I would say that about a L.A.M.B. handbag.) Buy through Nordstom for $395.
I’ve been really on the fence when it comes to L.A.M.B. handbags. I find myself either loving something or totally hating it. Maybe it is the pattern or perhaps the color, but for the most part I can’t decide how I feel about the brand as a whole. However, the L.A.M.B. Signature Carlisle Clutch I definitely like. I love how the bag can be held using the double handles, or how the handles can be folded down and the clutch carried just as that, a clutch. The print on this great. The earth-toned colors are soft yet rich. I like the leather trim at the edges; the color of the leather goes really well with the print. More than anything, this is just one of those handbags that simply “works”. It is functional, fashionable and fun. Buy through Shop Bop for $425.
Do you ever find yourself surfing the internet and then before you know it, you have no idea how you got to the page on your screen? Surfing the web is not only easy, but it can also be rather addicting. As you start looking at one page you see something off to the side, you click a new link, and then another and another. Well, that is how I came across the LAMB Angel Madeline Clutch. As I was playing around a bit I was drawn to the mention of 80’s style. Yes, that is right, I am an 80’s baby and I still have a soft spot in my heart for 80’s style. So, you know what that means, all things neon, big hair, slap bracelets, slouchy socks, etc.
I have to say, when I started looking at the clutch and trying to figure out how it fits into “80’s style”, I was a little confused at first. I mean, take a quick glance and I bet “80’s style” isn’t the first thing that pops into your head. But, the more I looked at it, the more I started to see a hint of that 80’s style I oh so love. The shape of the clutch is very similar to some of my very first handbags before I even hit double digits (although my bags were plastic or very cheap material, I rocked them!). The colors, although not neon, do remind me a bit of the 80’s as does the font sized used. But the real question isn’t if this clutch fits into 80’s style, but rather, do I want to buy it? In all honesty, probably not. I don’t know what I would wear it with nor how often it would see the light of day. Who knows though, this clutch could be quite the conversation starter or even better yet, it could make it into your handbag rotation! Buy through Shop Bop for $295.
I still don’t know how I feel about most handbags from the L.A.M.B line. Sure, Gwen Stefani has her own look, one that is much different than many other bags out there on the market. However, sometimes, the bags make my eyes go “ouch”. The LAMB Ombre Patent Manchester Tote tends to be one of the bags that hurts my eyes. The shades of green are too bright for me. And more than that, the bag is made out of patent leather. This patent leather looks like the kind that will stick to you on a hot day or make some kind of squeeking sound when it rubs up against another plastic. Do you know what I mean? On the other hand, I do like the size of the bag and I guess you could use it as you head to the beach or something like that. But, I think it is the kind of handbag I would get bored with very quickly. Like I said before, I think we all know Gwen has her own eclectic style. Some of the items she designs I like, others not so much. Yet, you would have to drop a significant amount of money to have this bag over your shoulder. If this is an item you could see yourself sporting, you can buy it through ShopBop for $495.
