Not only has the L.A.M.B. Etoile Hobo been carried on Gossip Girl recently, but it’s also been seen on the arm of L.A.M.B. founder Gwen Stefani for months on end now. As such, we’re pleased to inform you that several color combinations have finally hit stores as part of the brand’s Holiday 2010 collection.

This bag has probably been more highly anticipated than any other in the young brand’s handbag history, and with good reason – it neatly refines L.A.M.B.’s sometimes erratic point of view into something that is totally wearable while still being edgy and different from the average black hobo.

My main criticism is that I’m not a huge fan of the quilted logo that covers the black leather, but since it’s tonal and fairly intricate, it’s not easily identifiable as a logo unless you look up close. I wish that they had incorporated texture through another type of quilting, but if it’s a logo, so be it.

My favorite part, though, as with this bag’s little cousin, is the acid green trim that stands out so brilliantly against the matte black leather. I don’t have a single thing that color in my wardrobe, but it reminds me of the shiny, neon trim on the sneakers I wore as a child in the 80s and early 90s, and a fashionable wink towards childhood never hurt anyone, now did it? Buy through ShopBop for $495.

As of late, L.A.M.B. handbags have me guessing. There have been so many different handbags out there that I no longer know what to expect when I see one. At the beginning, like most of you, I was sure to identify a L.A.M.B. handbag from across the room. Yet, now, it is as if the design team is comfortable and willing to push themselves outside of their comfort zones. Thank goodness. While this isn’t the kind of bag that jumps out and screams, “Buy me now, Shannon”, it is intriguing.

There is something about the L.A.M.B. Williamsfield Tote. In fact, I almost passed it by because Amanda already covered a L.A.M.B. Williamsfield Tote just a few weeks ago. However, the two bags although both totes, are very different. The one Amanda covered is black and white while this one has more color than you could shake a paint brush at. This colorful, functional tote repeats the logo “LOVE ANGEL MUSIC BABY” and has double rolled handles. While this isn’t the kind of bag I’d take out to a fancy dinner, I would use this to spruce up an otherwise low-key outfit. Buy through Shopbop for $295.

Could the L.A.M.B. Briolette Clutch be one of the first bags that we’re seeing from the much-anticipated L.A.M.B. Holiday 2010 collection?

If it is, I’ve got to say that I’m simultaneously both excited and a little disappointed. Let’s take a closer look at why, after the jump.

Ok, so, let’s be honest here: the logo embossing is not particularly cute. In fact, it’s pretty cheap-looking. Luckily it’s tonal, which means that it isn’t as noticeable as it could be if it was done in a different color. Memo to L.A.M.B. – obvious logos went out of style in 2005.

Other than that, I’m totally digging it. This little shoulder bag is a perfect day-to-night size, and the electric green trim looks great against the larger expanse of black leather. The zippers work really well as a fairly subtle trim, and this is absolutely a bag I would want to own. I can’t wait to see the rest of this collection – it very well may be the brand’s best yet. Buy through ShopBop for $195.

L.A.M.B. bags are often a love-it-or-hate-it proposition, but some of the stuff I’ve seen from them in the past few weeks makes it seem like they’re really starting to get a toehold on their design aesthetic. First, we’ve been talking about one of their much-anticipated Holiday 2010 bags over on BagThatStyle recently, and now we have the L.A.M.B. Charlemagne Hobo that is newly available from ShopBop.

I’m not sure if this bag is from Fall/Winter or Holiday, but I am sure that it’s probably the most appealing L.A.M.B. bag that I’ve ever seen. One can only hope that they continue to soldier bravely on in this direction.

The bag keeps up the brand’s layered, patterned aesthetic by combining strips of supple, smooth leather with grosgrain ribbon insets to create a striped pattern that is still neutral because of its monochromality. Things like this are what L.A.M.B. should have been doing all along in order to attract the biggest customer base possibly while still embracing an interesting, atypical aesthetic, but I’m just glad they’ve finally figured it out. I would be happy to own and carry this handbag. Buy through ShopBop for $495.

The L.A.M.B. Zip Wallet could have been much better with a few minor tweaks. I love the platino colored metallic canvas wallet. The color is great, but that is about it. Too many details added to the clutch ruin any chance it had of being a hit. Wraparound zipper detailing, a logo plate AND ring detailing? No thanks – too much. Granted this might be perfect for someone going for an extremely edgy and busy look, but I don’t think I’d ever find myself in that position.
I never know how I’m going to feel about a new L.A.M.B. bag. Their aesthetic is so unique that it becomes very easy for one of their bags to take things a bit too far, particularly when it comes to their prints, of which I have never been a big fan. In fact, I think the L.A.M.B. Williamsfield Tote is the first of their printed bags that I’ve liked.

I don’t really like print in accessories, although I do like it in clothes, and I think it usually makes a bag hard to match to more than one or two wardrobe options. The highly modern brick print on this particular bag, though, means that it would probably blend in to more outfits than the average print; the white and black color scheme help even more. Everyone needs a few good throw-around bags, and this looks like a good candidate for someone with a young, modern personal style. The nail head details on the handle attachments are a nice touch, don’t you think? Buy through Luna Boston for $295.

I love how these kind of wallets practically double as a clutch. With cell phones being so tiny and skinny these days, there’s a good chance that you can even zip your cell into the wallet as well. I love seeing yet another option for this great style of wallet.

The L.A.M.B. Signature Zip Around Wallet is a stylish and affordable wallet that could work for so many different people. You know, the other thing I like about wallets is that no what your style or taste might be, you can probably appreciate the same wallet as someone who has a completely different view. This wallet in particular is fabulous. It’s not too bold, yet not too boring. The print is just a bit textured and since it is PVC it can withstand practically anything you put it through. If I could make any changes, I think I would downsize the logo plate. It’s a bit too big for me; something a fraction of the size would keep the focus on the wallet and not as much on the logo. Buy through Nordstrom for $165.

Design ideas that would look ridiculous and over-the-top on a large shoulder bag are rendered funky and fun in a smaller proportion, and if there was ever a great way to work some personality into your outfit, a great clutch is the way to do it.

With that in mind, I present the L.A.M.B. Deco Fisher Gilded Clutch.

I have very few gripes with this bag. I love the way that the black, gold and army green combine in angular, curvy ways to form the pattern, and in a bag as small as this one, it doesn’t look too contrived or cheap.

My one complaint is the shape. I don’t like the rounded corners on the bottom of the bag, it doesn’t appear to fit what they were trying to do with the top. If they had stayed fairly squared, I might be adding this to my shopping bag immediately. Buy through Saks for $245.

I am loving this new L.A.M.B. bag. I would like to first give a shout-out to my people over at Shopbop for continuing to offer some unbelievable bags at great prices.

Next, I’d like to thank Gwen Stefani and her design team for stepping away from the logo-crazy handbags and stepping towards less flashy and more accessible day-to-day bags.

Yes, I am gearing up for the award show season and I just can’t help myself from writing as if I was preparing my own speech, for say, an Oscar?

Ok, all kidding aside, I mean we all know I am not going to be up for an Oscar anytime during this life time, but a girl can dream, right? Moving away from my far-fetched dreams and back down to reality, I still do love the L.A.M.B. Marlene Hobo. This oversized leather handbag has patent leather and quilted suede. I love the subtle yet noticeable contrast. And while I am really over the blatant logo splashing all over a bag, I am perfectly fine with a nice shiny logo plate like this bag has.

Here is my only question. Do you think the shoulder strap will be comfy on your shoulder or will carrying it that way bring the bag itself to close to your underarm? This would be both uncomfortable and annoying! If I can move passed that, I want this bag! Buy through Shopbop for $495.

I see what L.A.M.B. was trying to do here, I think. I’d say they only got about halfway there, but at least they appear to have tried to go somewhere with it. I’d rather a designer have a vision and poorly execute it than have no vision at all.

And I think that that’s the central problem with the L.A.M.B. Mixed Media Satchel – it has a dream, but the end result does not live up to it.

Before we really dig in to this bag, I have something nice to say about it. The color combination is great. I had no idea that burgundy and dark orange would go that well together, but they really do, particularly when juxtaposed with black. And the retro-70s way that the colors are combined is kind of interesting.

And all that is fine and good, except that the bag doesn’t look high-end in the least. The handles in particular look very cheap, and the quality of the materials combined with the retro feel make this bag seem like a particularly good thrift-store find, not a handbag that should be selling for hundreds of dollars on the shelves of major luxury department stores. Retro is fine and good, as long as the modernity and quality are there, and this just doesn’t measure up. Buy through Nordstrom for $450.
