Oh, well, this is very interesting, now isn’t it?

L.A.M.B. bags are often a love-it-or-hate-it proposition, but some of the stuff I’ve seen from them in the past few weeks makes it seem like they’re really starting to get a toehold on their design aesthetic. First, we’ve been talking about one of their much-anticipated Holiday 2010 bags over on BagThatStyle recently, and now we have the L.A.M.B. Charlemagne Hobo that is newly available from ShopBop.

I’m not sure if this bag is from Fall/Winter or Holiday, but I am sure that it’s probably the most appealing L.A.M.B. bag that I’ve ever seen. One can only hope that they continue to soldier bravely on in this direction.

L.A.M.B. Zip Wallet

Just when I was beginning to love L.A.M.B, I come across this wallet. What is going on here? It is a hot mess.

LAMB Williamsfield Tote

I never know how I’m going to feel about a new L.A.M.B. bag. Their aesthetic is so unique that it becomes very easy for one of their bags to take things a bit too far, particularly when it comes to their prints, of which I have never been a big fan. In fact, I think the L.A.M.B. Williamsfield Tote is the first of their printed bags that I’ve liked.

L.A.M.B. Signature Zip Around Wallet

I’ve been loving zip-around wallets every since Megs bought my mom a Fendi one and later got herself a Louis Vuitton. I love how these kind of wallets practically double as a clutch. With cell phones being so tiny and skinny these days, there’s a good chance that you can even zip your cell into the wallet as well. I love seeing yet another option for this great style of wallet.

L.A.M.B. Deco Fisher Gilded Clutch

A good rule of thumb for handbags is that the smaller the bag is, the more interesting things can be done with it. Design ideas that would look ridiculous and over-the-top on a large shoulder bag are rendered funky and fun in a smaller proportion, and if there was ever a great way to work some personality into your outfit, a great clutch is the way to do it.

With that in mind, I present the L.A.M.B. Deco Fisher Gilded Clutch.

I am loving this new L.A.M.B. bag. I would like to first give a shout-out to my people over at Shopbop for continuing to offer some unbelievable bags at great prices.

Next, I’d like to thank Gwen Stefani and her design team for stepping away from the logo-crazy handbags and stepping towards less flashy and more accessible day-to-day bags.

Yes, I am gearing up for the award show season and I just can’t help myself from writing as if I was preparing my own speech, for say, an Oscar?

I see what L.A.M.B. was trying to do here, I think. I’d say they only got about halfway there, but at least they appear to have tried to go somewhere with it. I’d rather a designer have a vision and poorly execute it than have no vision at all.

And I think that that’s the central problem with the L.A.M.B. Mixed Media Satchel – it has a dream, but the end result does not live up to it.

L.A.M.B. Signature Crossbody Bag

I’ve been eying this bag for quite some time now. Initially I passed it by because nothing really jumped out and said “I need this” just as nothing jumped out and said “ewwww”.

Yet, each time I come across it, I find myself stopping and looking for a while. L.A.M.B. designs are usually blatantly recognizable, but this one isn’t and I think that is part of the reason I like it so much.

L.A.M.B Martindale Hobo

LAMB Martindale HoboThe first thing that struck me about the LAMB Martindale Hobo is that it’s much more muted and understand that many of L.A.M.B’s bags, which are usually characterized by bright patterns or images and contrasting colors. But bag is almost entirely made of black matte leather, and I didn’t even realize who had made it when I first stumbled across it.

The second thing that struck me was that it kind of reminds me of the Orlando Magic’s baskbetball uniforms. The bag is mostly black with a shock of cobalt blue and some white piping – it’s got an almost athletic feel to it, doesn’t it? It would be a more convincing comparison if the black leather was perforated, but even though it isn’t, it still feels that way to me. I’m not sure if it’s the white piping that’s throwing me off, or maybe it’s the piping mixed with the bright blue trim. Either way, it’d be a great bag if your favorite sports team wears these colors. If not, it’s still probably an okay purchase. Buy through Nordstrom for $259.90

L.A.M.B. Andhra Tote

LAMB Andhra ToteIn all honesty, I usually find L.A.M.B. bags to be a bit much. There are usually lots of patterns, contrasting colors and overlays in one bag, and then maybe some extra trim for good measure. I can see why people like them, but for the pattern-averse out there, it can be a lot of look.

So I’m surprised to say that I think they hit the perfect note with the L.A.M.B. Andhra Tote. The background pattern is a subtle black-and-gray combination somewhere between ikat and zebra print that isn’t too loud or obnoxious, and the patent stripes of blue and yellow add a pop to the bag that gives contrast without clashing. It’s a pleasantly unusual bag without being unattractive, and that’s a line that L.A.M.B. seems to have been trying to walk for a very long time. Well, they’ve finally gotten it right. At this size, this might even make a good school tote for days when you girls don’t have that much to haul around. Buy through Nordstrom for $425.
