The Kate Spade Tumbled Cowhide Stevie Tote boasts some of the things I look for in a great handbag: a classic shape, a classic design and a classic color. Looking at the bag from the front on, the bag might look a little blah. However, look a bit more and you will see that this is the kind of bag that is full of grace and elegance. The tumbled cowhide is downright touchable. While I am not always a huge fan of drawstrings on handbags, the drawstring accents along the sides of this bag add the right amount of flare to the otherwise streamlined bag. Finally, the color, it is perfect for so many outfits and so many times of the year that this bag will definitely get quite a bit of use. Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $395.

And when I look back at the previous owl bag, I like it way more than I did when I originally wrote about it. Its personality and inventiveness have grown on me exponentially, and as such, I intend to drool praise on this smaller iteration quite a bit. Be prepared. Maybe wear a poncho.

My one and only complaint is that it doesn’t have the feet. The tiny gold feet! They were so adorable! But when things are miniaturized, some detail has to be lost, and I guess that was it. But the little bag still features three types of suede, patent leather, a metal beak and glass eyes, which is basically a thousand times more creativity than you’re going to find in an average bag. I wonder if I could shove my Blackberry into it – if so, I’d definitely consider it as a cell phone case. Buy through Nordstrom for $125.

Now, this is just absolutely clever. In fact, coming across the Kate Spade Par Avion Airline Cosmetic Case today was perfect timing because I really need a new cosmetic case. I’ve had the same one for a few years now and it has held up really well. As it gets dirty, I clean it, but I am thinking it is just time to pitch the one I have and replace it with a new one. When it comes to cosmetic cases, I don’t like to go too fancy because, let’s be honest, it is just going to get super dirty super quickly.

This Kate Spade cosmetic case is perfect. First of all, I am not going to drop a bunch of cash on this thus making me wait longer for a new handbag I’ve been drooling over and saving up for. This clear cosmetic bag is designed after an old fashioned mail envelope. You can use this for travel or simply at home to hold some of your make-up. Very cute idea, excellent execution and not a bad price. I might have to replace my current cosmetic case with this one. Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $50.

This is exactly the kind of tote I would expect to see carried say, to the Hamptons or whilst yachting. Clearly, this large nylon tote would be perfect if you are heading somewhere that you need to pack a bunch of things, perhaps magazines, a bottle of water, sunscreen, etc. The blue color of the tote is wonderful however the bow, well, the bow I could do without. A preppy design topped off with a bow comes together to make a bag that isn’t for everyone. I am sure there is a specific taste that is needed to love this tote and well, I just don’t fall into that category. Yet, Kate Spade is certainly the kind of designer who knows how to properly execute the preppy look. Buy through Saks for $295.

Again, there is something whimsical and feminine about the Kate Spade Quilted Poppy Fields Maryanne Tote that has me captivated. I am sure it is the tonal embroidered poppy motif that really plays on the flirty red color of the bag that makes it so lovable. The double chain shoulder straps make this bag stand out just a bit more than normal straps would have. I can see that some of you might think it looks like a diaper bag and I can see that, but I don’t think that is the aspect to focus on at all. Buy through Bloomie’s for $325.

And you should start with the Kate Spade El Morocco Paola Clutch.

It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the combination of silver and gold sequins that covers this clutch is totally gorgeous. And it probably weighs four pounds – they don’t skimp on how much shine they’re giving you for your money.

As with a lot of Kate Spade’s more audacious bags, this clutch would require an owner with the right sense of quirky personal style in order for it to look right, but on someone that’s confident and slightly twee (maybe someone like Zoey Deschanel?), this bag would be perfect for a night out on the town. Buy through Kate Spade for $475.

This clutch is simply darling. In fact, the Kate Spade Grosgrain Plissé Jeb Clutch is a perfect choice for a night out with the girls or your significant other. While the tiers of box-pleated grosgrain could go horribly awry if not precisely placed, it is obvious that much thought and consideration went into making this look work. It almost reminds me a bit of a flapper dress – see the resemblance? This is definitely the kind of clutch that is perfect when you are looking to have your accessories make the statement of the night. I love the drop-in wrist strap, gold-tone hardware and snake-embossed trim. Gorgeous! Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $225.

I am almost too awed by the cojones that it took to actually design, manufacture and distribute this bag to say anything negative about it. And I don’t mean that in any sort of sarcastic way – it almost makes it all the way down the awesome-awful continuum and flips back around to awesome.

I need you to suspend disbelief and forget about the ridiculousness of this bag for a moment and look at the detail work that went into it, because it’s pretty impressive and deserves a look. There are four colors of suede, patent leather, gold metallic leather and plenty of hardware going in to making this bag what it is, and it’s all exceptionally well-planned and intricately incorporated into the larger design. The level of thought and workmanship is surprising by itself, no matter what it’s intended to make.

But then again, the thing that it’s intended to make is an owl. And if you like owls, if you collect owls the way that some people collect cow or frog stuff, then this is probably your biggest bag dream come to life. Even if you don’t, but you have a quirky way about you, then this might be great. I don’t think it’s terribly relevant to the average person, but I find myself unable to not respect it for what it is – a really well-done owl bag. Buy through Saks for $425.

So, before I spiral out of control, I figured this time, I would try and change my outlook a bit. Let’s think of the positives when it comes to going back to school – FASHION! Back-to-school almost always means new clothes, shoes and bags. Now, while I wasn’t one of the girls who carried designer bags to class, I found one I think might be perfect. The Kate Spade Westbury Mini Brennan Crossbody Bag would definitely boost just about any girls’ back-to-school blues. While you won’t be able to fit all your books and notebooks, you can definitely store some of your supplies. Pebbled leather (white, pink or black), an adjustable strap, gold-tone hardware, several pockets and great lining are just some of the great features of the bag. I love the practicality and accessibility of the bag too. And hey, even if you aren’t going back to school, this is one bag that just about anyone could find use for. Buy through Bloomingdales for $195.

Is the clutch worth that gamble? Maybe. The zebra-striped straw is more interesting than your average summer clutch, and the contrasting patent trim is a nice, safari-esque touch. The price – almost $300 – seems oddly high for a straw clutch from Kate Spade, though. Even if you’re going to get plenty more sunshine this year, you’d probably be better served by putting that money towards an ultra-luxe leather bag for fall. Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $295.
