Ahh, finally. It’s been a while since Foley + Corinna came through for me with a bag that I truly enjoy, but the day has come.

The Foley + Corinna Zipper Bag isn’t the greatest thing I’ve ever seen, but it’s simple, functional and on-trend at a very reasonable price.

Foley + Corinna Disco City Bag

One of my favorite colloquial terms of all time is “disco nap.” For those that aren’t familiar, it’s the nap that you take in the early evening, in between your normal, daily activities and the night’s revelry and/or drinking. Anyone who’s ever been to college knows the importance of the disco nap (or naps in general. Really, they’re beautiful) and has taken many in his or her life, whether or not their proper name was known at the time.

So what does that have to do with the Foley + Corinna Disco City Bag? Besides the inclusion of the word “disco,” nothing. I just like writing about things that aren’t entirely handbag related sometimes. Shhhh, don’t tell anyone. Anyway, so what about the bag?

This is a Foley + Corinna handbag that I can get excited about! For me, this brand is very hit or miss. I like some things and I cringe at others. I was first introduced to the brand when I came across the Foley + Corinna Jet Setter Jr Tote. While I liked the bag, I wasn’t totally on the fan-wagon. However, if they keep up with bags like this one, I am more likely to change my tune.

Now what do we have here? A white clutch, some great stitching and an affordable price – not too bad. Now of course, with Labor Day right around the corner, I am a little hesitant to buy a new summer inspired clutch, but again the price is definitely right.

Foley + Corinna Stanton Messenger

Foley + Corinna Stanton MessengerIt’s been, uh, kind of a while since I’ve had something nice to say about a Foley + Corinna bag. Which is really unfortunate, since they’re one of my favorite lower-priced brands and I think they make fabulous bags in general. They’ve just made some missteps recently, and isn’t that something with which we can all identify? Of course, which is why seeing the Foley + Corinna Stanton Messenger made me so happy.

Previously, we wrote about the hot mess that is the Foley + Corinna Stanton Convertible Tote, and the messenger version of the line is clearly superior. Not only does it eliminate one set of handles, but it streamlines the design into something that looks like it was intended to be a hobo when carried as one and intended to be a messenger when carried by the longer strap. Considering very few convertible messenger bags ever succeed at looking purposeful and useful in both configurations, that’s quite a design accomplishment. If you prefer it as a hobo, though, never fear – the long strap is fully removable. Welcome back to the game, Foley + Corinna. Buy through Luna Boston for $448.

Foley + Corinna Jet Setter Jr Tote

I don’t know about you, but I get this fuzzy feeling whenever I’m traveling and I know that my travel outfit is comfortable while still being cute and sophisticated (the latter is harder for me since I’m barely five feet tall) and my bag is amazing but still perfect for carrying all the travel essentials. I call this my “Jet Setter” happy feeling, and I have no doubt that this Foley + Corinna Jet Setter Jr Tote would help that feeling come much more often. This time it comes to us in a more useful matte pebbled leather, unlike the two-tone metallic Foley + Corinna Jet Setter that Amanda reviewed last year. This time, Foley + Corinna gets the bag right.

Foley and Corinna Jet Setter Jr Tote

It’s literally made for travel, and the bright orangey-red color ensures that it won’t get misplaced. My favorite thing about this bag is that is solves the problem of open totes: they are open, great for travel, but how do you stop everything from tumbling out? This tote has turn-lock closures on each side of the main compartment that allows you to close the bag while adding style appeal. Plus, how cute would this tote look with black yoga pants? Buy through Shopbop for $528.

Foley + Corinna Moto Hobo

Foley and Corinna Moto Leather HoboOh dear. I’m kind of worried about the Foley + Corinna Moto Hobo on a structural level. As with their last bag that I reviewed, the Foley + Corinna Perforated Crossbody Bag, I think they may have sacrificed some important functional concerns in order to achieve a particular look, much to their detriment.

My gripe with this bag, as with the last bag, is mainly with the handle. It attaches to the back of the bag instead of evenly on the sides, leaving the bag gaping open and its contents very exposed if you aren’t careful to close it. Since the body of the bag closes with a snap instead of a magnet, you have to be sure to do it every time you’re in and out of the bag, lest it droop open and the contents of the bag be ripe for the picking. If you’ve ever seen anyone carry a messenger bag on one shoulder with the top flipped back, you know the effect I’m talking about – it would be obvious to all passersby. Sorry, Foley + Corinna. Try again. Buy through Saks for $450.

The problem with designing bags (and any other functional thing, I expect) is that not only do they need to look good, but there are certain physical attributes and abilities that cannot be ignored in order to make the bag more interesting to look at.

Foley and Corinna Perforated Crossbody Bag

Too bad the folks at Foley + Corinna appear to have completely forgotten that while designing the Foley + Corinna Perforated Crossbody Bag. The bag itself isn’t terrible – the curvature at the bottom is a little much for how squat the body is, but it could be a lot worse in a lot of different ways. What I really question is the wisdom of putting so many perforations in such a wide, thin strap. Perforations, by definition, change how the material will distribute weight and give the strap innumerable points of weakness that wouldn’t be there otherwise. These points will likely cause the strap to stretch in odd ways and the bag to wear out more quickly than it would have. To that, I have only one word: fail. Buy through Saks for $575.

Foley + Corinna Arm Candy Clutch

All I can say right now is that I really need a bunch of slouchy, soft, touchable purple leather in my life. Yep. That’s all this clutch makes me think. The picture itself? Not that awesome. I’ve seen other pictures of the Foley + Corinna Arm Candy Clutch in different colors that do it much more justice – it’s oversized and slouchy while still being structured because of the frame closure. But none of them, none of them at all, have the purple leather that this one has, and it’s the purple that I really want to talk about.

Foley + Corinna Arm Candy Clutch

This color? Seriously? I’m in heaven. It’s the absolute perfect shade of purple, will look great with pretty much color except red or royal blue, and the shape is simple enough that you’ll use it for years as a go-to going out bag. So what are you waiting for? Go get one so I can live vicariously. Buy through Luna Boston for $365.

Foley + Corinna Fold Over Clutch

Foley + Corinna Foldover Clutch

I’m going to come out and say it, no beating around the bush here, does this clutch look worn out? There is something about the colors used in the Foley + Corinna Fold Over Clutch that looks like it was left out in the bright summer sun for too long. I am all for pastels and light colors, but this one just looks a tad too warn. Do you agree? While I love the colors, I think I would appreciate them more if they were a little more bold and daring. I love the shape of the clutch; it screams easy going and fun loving. So tell me, what do you think? Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $390.
